Nassau Police Officer Ian Fogarty Honored
Ian Fogarty, a Nassau County police officer, was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.
Fogarty, who was visiting the beach with his family, saw the two 16-year-olds struggling in the current about 100 yards offshore. With a boogie board, he swam out and helped them return to shore safely.
It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly
Fogarty was honored by the Nassau County Legislature for his "selfless valor" and named "Top Cop" for September.
