Animal Color Change: An Unresolved Mystery
Scientists are puzzled by the sudden change in color of certain animals, such as the white Iberian lynx in Spain and the howler monkeys of Costa Rica.
Some animals, like chameleons, octopuses, cuttlefish, and snowshoe hares, naturally change color, but the appearance of a white Iberian lynx is surprising. A female lynx, known as Satureja, has lost her natural brown and orange tones, but retained her unique black spots.
No one knows the reason for this striking change in coat color, which had already been observed in another lynx previously.
Scientists are calling for more research to understand the role of environmental factors, such as exposure to chemicals, in these anomalies.
