Canon EOS R6 Mark III: Key Features and Specs

Canon has introduced the new EOS R6 Mark III, which shares many features with the Canon EOS C50 but in a design more tailored for still photography. Despite this focus, the R6 Mark III offers strong video capabilities.

Sensor and Image Quality

The EOS R6 Mark III uses the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor found in the EOS C50, an upgrade from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor used in the R6 Mark II. Unlike the EOS C80 and C400, this sensor does not feature Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS design.

Video Performance

These video features closely mirror those of the EOS C50.

Processor and Autofocus

The camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, also used in Canon's C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III models. Notably, the EOS R6 Mark III and C50 do not have a back-illuminated stacked sensor, which is often used to improve autofocus performance in cameras like the C80, C400, and R3.

“It’s interesting to see that the R6 Mark III and C50 don’t feature a Back Illuminated Stacked sensor like the C80 and C400, and R3. One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance.”

Summary

The Canon EOS R6 Mark III blends high-resolution still photography features with advanced video capabilities, making it a versatile option for hybrid shooters.
