Broadcaster and dedicated cancer fundraiser Carrie Bickmore OAM received the 2026 Australian of the Year award for Victoria at a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6.
Since 2015, Bickmore has raised over $27 million to combat brain cancer. In 2021, she established The Brain Cancer Centre, which unites leading researchers to develop effective treatments. This centre supports nationwide projects and conducts pioneering clinical trials that are unique worldwide.
Brain cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease, and more people under 40 than any other cancer — including Bickmore's late husband, Greg, who passed away in 2010.
The awards highlight the impactful work of individuals improving lives and health across Victoria and Australia.
