Hydro One selects AtkinsRéalis to expand key substation powering Toronto from new Darlington SMRs

AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a global engineering and nuclear services firm, has been chosen by Hydro One Networks Inc., an Ontario-based utility employing nearly 10,000 people, for a multi-year Owner’s Engineer contract to expand the Bowmanville Switching Station. This facility, located across from the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, will support the grid connection of four planned Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington New Nuclear Project site.

“Delivering nation-building energy projects in Canada and abroad has long been a cornerstone of our Power & Renewables work,” said Ian L. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of AtkinsRéalis. “Our Canadian centre of excellence and global expertise make us uniquely equipped to ensure this substation delivers reliable power from the Darlington project to communities across southern Ontario, including Toronto.”

This collaboration reinforces Ontario’s commitment to advancing clean nuclear energy infrastructure and securing sustainable power for growing urban regions.
