Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, is organizing a webinar on best practices for responsible media coverage when reporting on crime victims.
The panel will be moderated by Nela Kalpic, State Director for Marsy’s Law Wisconsin.
The webinar will highlight recommendations from the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) guide for reporters, focusing on ethical interaction with victims. It will emphasize protecting survivors from unwanted attention and using their stories in a way that benefits both the reporter and the survivor.
Additionally, the discussion will link these journalistic practices to Wisconsin’s constitutional amendment for crime victims’ rights, known as Marsy’s Law, which guarantees victims privacy, notice, and the right to participate in the justice process.
