The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced it will continue with a full cull of hundreds of ostriches on a farm in British Columbia. This decision follows the farm owners' unsuccessful attempt to have their case reviewed by the Supreme Court of Canada.
The Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal, clearing the way for CFIA to act. The farm owners had sought judicial intervention to stop the culling but were denied.
“We will move forward with the complete cull following the court’s decision,” said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
With no further legal obstacles, CFIA will carry out the planned cull to address its concerns related to the ostriches at the British Columbia farm.
“This action is necessary to ensure compliance with health and safety standards,” CFIA added in its statement.
