CSotD: The Wide World of Whatever

Ann Telnaes provokes a response of “Well, yes, but no…” I’m done wondering whether Trump is deliberately lying or truly believes the absurd things he says. In the past, I compared him to OJ Simpson and Jeffrey MacDonald, both of whom denied murders they clearly committed.

I believe they were sincere, having convinced themselves of an alternative reality that was easier to handle. While I can’t psychoanalyze the President, I doubt he really thinks he graduated from Wharton with honors, let alone first in his class.

However, I am willing to accept that he believes refugees seeking “asylum” had been confined to mental hospitals, and I remain neutral about who he thinks pays tariffs.

What matters less to me is whether he believes a dementia test is an intelligence test; I know its purpose and have seen the video of him appearing disoriented in Japan. More concerning is how reporters who criticized Biden for signs of confusion seem to overlook Trump’s apparent mental decline.

“To accuse him of deliberate lies assumes he can tell fact from fiction.”

Author’s summary: The piece reflects skepticism about judging Trump’s statements as intentional lies, highlighting concern over media bias toward his mental state compared to other leaders.
