Toronto Blue Jays’ top brass speak following World Series loss

Toronto Blue Jays' Leadership Responds After World Series Defeat

The Toronto Blue Jays’ president and CEO addressed reporters on Thursday following their Game 7 loss in the World Series last week. Mark Shapiro published an open letter to fans on Wednesday, expressing his thanks for a historic season that brought the team to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1993.

“Thank you to our fans - the best in baseball,” Shapiro, who joined the Jays in 2015, wrote on X. “Your energy, love, your hopes and belief reached our players and lifted us all.”

Shapiro’s remarks came amid uncertainty surrounding key players, including free agents Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt, and Max Scherzer, and whether they will re-sign with the club they publicly admire. On Wednesday, fan favorite Shane Bieber exercised his player option to return for the next season in a Blue Jays uniform.

General Manager Ross Atkins Comments

Following Shapiro, General Manager Ross Atkins spoke briefly. Having secured a five-year extension with Toronto in 2021, Atkins declined to discuss his own contract status when asked.

“Not going to talk about my contract. Incredible people to work for. I have nothing but positive things to say about this market, the city, country, and organization, I could not be more grateful,” Atkins stated.

When questioned about re-signing Bo Bichette, Atkins refrained from disclosing any negotiation details.
