The Toronto Blue Jays’ leadership addressed the media after their thrilling World Series run that ended in Game 7. Team president and CEO Mark Shapiro and general manager Ross Atkins discussed key offseason topics and decisions.
The Blue Jays are not committing to Jeff Hoffman as their closer for the next season. Ross Atkins emphasized Hoffman’s flexibility and team-oriented attitude.
“The great thing about Jeff is he’s not married to closing. Talking about that cohesion and that team approach, he epitomizes it. He would be open to anything that makes us better.”
Atkins noted his interest in keeping much of the current roster intact, while also stressing that improvement remains a priority.
“I wouldn’t put myself in a box to say that there has to be change to improve. I believe in human beings, I believe in the power of development. We have to constantly be thinking about getting better.”
Questions about shortstop Bo Bichette’s future were met with cautious optimism. Atkins confirmed the team will participate in his free agency market, citing respect for Bichette’s right to explore his options.
“The timing or lack thereof was out of respect for his right to get to free agency and having already earned that.”
Atkins addressed bench coach Don Mattingly’s departure and said he does not anticipate further major changes to the coaching staff.
The Jays’ press conference emphasized continuity, respect for player agency, and a commitment to internal growth as the organization heads into 2026.
