Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has officially won the New York City mayoral race, defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
The race was highly contentious, with Mamdani emerging victorious on Tuesday night. The NYC Board of Elections reported over 2 million votes, the highest turnout since 1969.
"The last stop is City Hall,"
a voice says in an 11-minute video clip posted by Mamdani on X, celebrating his victory. The Associated Press called the race about 30 minutes after polls closed at 9 p.m.
