Hackney Co-op has been slammed for taking years to address damp and mould problems in residents' homes.
The Housing Ombudsman, Richard Blakeway, released a report highlighting critical failings, including cases where carpets were wet and mushrooms grew in children's bedrooms.
Residents in council and housing association homes were often having to throw away their belongings, including beds, because they were "covered in mould".
This criticism comes as Awaab's Law, legislation designed to protect social housing tenants from dangerous living conditions, came into effect on 27 October.
