Dredging Resumes in Channel Islands Harbor
Dredging equipment has returned to the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California, as part of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project.
The project, which is typically done every other year, was delayed last year due to permitting issues. Its purpose is to remove sand from the mouth of the harbor to facilitate boat traffic and to pump sand through a pipeline to the beach in Port Hueneme, which has been impacted by erosion.
The dredging is expected to be completed early next year. Meanwhile, sea lions have been spotted in the area, posing a challenge to crews working on new dock construction.
