CU head coach Deion Sanders confirmed that freshman Julian Lewis will make his first career start at quarterback when the Buffs play at West Virginia on Saturday.
Lewis, a five-star freshman, will take over the reins of the Colorado offense. This decision comes after fifth-year senior Kaidon Salter struggled in the last two weeks, starting eight of the first nine games for the Buffs (3-6, 1-5 Big 12).
“Common sense,”said Sanders when asked about the reason for the change.
Lewis recently came off the bench during Saturday’s 52-17 loss to Arizona and threw his first career touchdown. Although he left the game early with an apparent hand injury, Sanders confirmed that Lewis is ready to play.
“He’s throwing the heck out of the ball,”said Sanders.
