In Santa Barbara, two proposed housing projects near the Old Mission Santa Barbara have sparked a preservation debate.
The projects, an eight-story complex and a multi-story tower, have raised concerns about traffic, safety, and environmental impacts.
“There’s no question that the proposal would lead to significant traffic and safety impacts in the case of a fire or an earthquake. It’s already jampacked,”
said resident Lanny Ebenstein. A new coalition, SAGE (Sustainable Architecture for the Greater Environment), is leading the charge to protect the area's heritage.
