Energy Policy in B.C.: A New Proposal
B.C. Premier David Eby and Energy Minister Adrian Dix have proposed significant changes to the province's energy policy. The goal is to capitalize on one of B.C.'s most valuable assets: electricity.
"We need to leverage the benefits that we have here in order to realize the prosperity that we want,"
Eby stated on Oct. 21, as he unveiled a suite of changes to provincial laws and regulations. He emphasized the importance of accessing clean, reliable, and affordable power to gain an edge in the global economy.
Electrifying Industries
According to Eby, the best use for this power is to electrify emission-intensive industries, such as:
- Mining
- Liquefied natural gas (LNG) production
- Ports to ship goods overseas
However, energy experts are not convinced that this proposal is in the best interest of B.C.
