Junior Annet Lopez-Pinedo, a student at Godwin Heights High School, has earned a Youth Award from the Committee to Honor César E. Chávez for her exceptional leadership skills.
As the owner of her own bakery, Annet Sweets, Annet compares leadership to baking, emphasizing the importance of balance.
The dough can’t be too heavy or it falls off the stick, and the chocolate can’t be too thin or it’ll break, she says. Similarly, leadership is about finding the right balance between guiding and empowering others.

I don’t want people to follow me just for the sake of it — I want to help them become leaders themselves, she explains. This philosophy has earned her recognition, including the Committee to Honor César E. Chávez Youth Award for exemplifying principles of service, justice, and nonviolence.
