A researcher studying cinema, particularly lesser-known films by African directors and production companies, faces the challenge of articulating the significance of their work. Despite the obvious fascination with the subject matter, the response "so what?" is often encountered.
Whenever I describe what I’ll be adding to the research literature, my mentor writes in the margins of my draft materials, “so what?”
