World Athletics and Technogym have announced the launch of RUN X, a virtual global indoor 5k treadmill competition.
The competition, which kicks off in 2026, features gyms and fitness clubs and offers a $100,000 prize pool. The top 10 male and 10 female runners will compete for the first-ever treadmill world crown.
“By combining the best of Technogym’s running technology with the reach and universality of athletics, this event promises to revolutionize the world of e-sports,”
said World Athletics President Sebastian Coe. An online leaderboard will show real-time rankings during the series.
