Rethinking Megaprojects in San Francisco
California has set a target for the city of San Francisco to build 82,000 new housing units within the next five years.
The city is currently behind schedule in meeting this demand, despite new zoning laws expected to help bridge the gap.
Stalled Megaprojects
One notable example is the Parkmerced project, which has been stalled for 14 years after its approval by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2011.
"Of course, they've made promises, but they also ruined the neighborhood,"
said Mohammed Husseini, a longtime resident of Parkmerced, who along with his brother has lived there for over 30 years.
The city's ability to meet its quota remains uncertain due to such stalled projects.
