American officials have expressed optimism about an upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as "very productive."
Trump's five-day Asian tour is expected to include a bilateral meeting with Xi in South Korea, aimed at calming the trade war between the two nations.
"I believe that we have the framework for the two leaders to have a very productive meeting for both sides,"
said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on NBC's "Meet the Press." His comments were echoed by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who noted that negotiators are "getting to a spot where the leaders will have a very productive meeting."
This meeting comes after Trump threatened new tariffs on Chinese goods, prompting China to expand export controls on rare earth magnets and minerals.
