A truck driver, identified as 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of a drug causing injury.
The charges stem from a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 10 in Ontario, California, that killed three people. Authorities alleged that Singh was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Singh, who is in the United States illegally, has also had an immigration detainer placed on him, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
