Salt Lake County Mayor Proposes Property Tax Increase
Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson has proposed a nearly 20% property tax increase in her 2026 budget proposal.
The proposed increase, which equates to about $7.28 per household per month on average, was presented to the Salt Lake County Council.
"After exhausting every other option, a property tax increase of 19.63% is necessary this year,"
said Mayor Wilson during her presentation. The proposal has sparked disappointment and frustration among residents, with one resident, Dena Long, expressing her concerns.
"I think it's insane,"
she said. The proposed tax increase is part of a "responsible, forward-looking, balanced budget" according to Mayor Wilson.
