Marissa Monteith, a junior at Macomb Dakota, has been making a name for herself in girls' golf.
When Monteith was in eighth grade, her parents gave her an ultimatum: if she was going to give up softball, she would still have to play a school sport.
"My grandpa lives on a golf course and I've played golf for fun growing up. I guess I was pretty good at it, but never really took it seriously,"
recalled Monteith. She added that her parents encouraged her to stay active, saying
"My parents said there was no way I would just sit around after school and not do anything."
Monteith tried out for the golf team in high school and has since been rising through the charts.
