New data shows police arrests during federal task force surge

New Data on Police Arrests During Federal Task Force Surge

The City of Memphis has released new data showing the Memphis Police Department made 1,217 arrests in the first four weeks of the Memphis Safe Task Force’s surge.

Of those arrests, 699 were for misdemeanor charges and 518 were for felony charges, according to data from a new dashboard.

“This is new,” said Mayor Paul Young. “We still have our dashboard for the city, it still exists, but this is a new document that we’re going to provide on a daily basis during this surge."

The data shows that serious offenses, including murders, aggravated assaults, and robberies, remained in the hundreds consistently throughout 2024. However, 2025 shows a different pattern.
