Internet Services Disrupted by Amazon Cloud Outage
Many popular internet services experienced hours of downtime on Monday due to an outage in Amazon's cloud network.
- Streaming platforms: Amazon's Prime Video, Disney+
- Messaging services: Signal, WhatsApp
- Gaming: Fortnite
- Other services: Airbnb, Snapchat, Duolingo, Perplexity AI
- Banks: Some UK banks, such as Lloyd's
The disruption was caused by an issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS), which handles nearly a third of the global cloud infrastructure market.
AWS's maintenance site reported "increased error rates" hitting multiple services at 0711 GMT.
AWS engineers worked to fix the underlying DNS issue.
