Centrist Rodrigo Paz Wins Bolivia's Presidential Runoff

Centrist senator Rodrigo Paz has won Bolivia's presidency with 54% of the vote, ending 20 years of rule by the Movement Toward Socialism party amid economic turmoil.

According to preliminary results, Paz topped his right-wing rival, former President Jorge "Tuto" Quiroga, who secured 45% of the votes. Óscar Hassenteufel, the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, stated:

"The trend is irreversible"
regarding Paz's lead.

Paz's victory was celebrated by his supporters in a hotel ballroom in La Paz, where he appeared with his wife, María Helena Urquidi, and four adult children. The crowd cheered, shouting his name and holding phones aloft.
