UN Reports Millions in Haiti Face Acute Hunger Epidemic
The UN highlighted that millions of Haitians are facing severe food insecurity as armed groups expand their territorial control around the country, according to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) hunger report.
The data shows that 5.7 million people, over half the population, are now classified in ‘Crisis’ or worse (IPC Phase 3 or above), marking one of the deepest humanitarian crises in the Western Hemisphere.
- 1.9 million Haitians (17 percent) are suffering Emergency-level hunger (IPC Phase 4), with large food gaps, acute malnutrition, and excess mortality risks.
- An additional 3.8 million people are facing Crisis-level hunger (IPC Phase 3).
The situation in Haiti is one of the deepest humanitarian crises in the Western Hemisphere.
