KEY WEST’S HOMECOMING TRADITIONS TURN 75

Seventy-five years have passed since the first Homecoming game, with the country electing a dozen presidents, fighting and debating wars, and music evolving from sock hops to hip hop.

The world of 1950 is vastly different from that of today’s high school students in 2025, with changes in technology, culture, and society, including the transition from black and white TV and segregated schools.

Despite these changes, Key West High School students remain united by their hometown traditions, including the annual Homecoming game, which continues this week with the crowning of the 75th Homecoming queen.

The Homecoming queen is voted into the crown by her fellow students, and will be crowned during halftime of the game on Friday evening.

The island still treasures its hometown traditions.

Author’s summary: Key West celebrates 75 years of Homecoming traditions.
