The Japanese Government has formally requested OpenAI to refrain from infringing copyrights related to its anime and manga industries.
A request was made by Japan's Cabinet Office's Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Secretariat to OpenAI, following concerns raised about anime-style videos featuring existing characters created via OpenAI's Sora 2 video generator.
Minoru Kiuchi, Japan’s Minister of State for Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence Strategy, revealed this at a press conference on October 10.
This move comes after users created a number of anime-style videos with Sora and posted them on social media platforms, sparking concerns from Japanese authorities after Sora 2’s launch on September 30.
