AAP FactCheck has debunked social media claims that almost a million migrants who arrived in Australia between 2022/23 and 2023/24 will soon be invited to become citizens.
The claims are based on data that mostly includes existing citizens and temporary migrants, who are not yet eligible for citizenship. Permanent visas, a precursor to citizenship, are granted at a much lower rate.
False claims about immigration have spread across social media platforms, including X and Facebook, to promote an upcoming anti-immigration march on October 19.
An earlier anti-immigration protest in August was also promoted using false claims, which AAP FactCheck previously debunked.
AAP FactCheck found that the claims of a looming boom in new citizens are unfounded.
