A Mankato woman, Mary Jane Hollerich, diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, is determined to run the Mankato 10K.
She shared this with Randall Gimm, stating she's beating the odds by continuing to teach, run, and live life on her terms despite her diagnosis.
Recently, Hollerich was preparing for her first race in 5 years, after being diagnosed with a tumor the size of a lemon, which was initially mistaken for running-related stomach cramps.
“When you start experiencing symptoms, it's usually too late. Meaning, it has spread, it's stage four, and so this kind of cancer is hidden and goes undetected.”
Hollerich credits her support system, including family, friends, and coworkers, for helping her through this challenging time.
“We're working all together to support it.”
