Preview of the Netherlands' Biggest Artwork
Job Smeets, designer and founder of Studio Job, is working on House of Delft, a 2,000 sq m artwork that is a surreal ode to the city of Delft.
Smeets invites us into his atelier to see the work in progress, showcasing his passion for tactile materials such as majolica, bronze, and wall tapestries.
His work is loaded with conceptual metaphors, but he speaks most passionately about the tactility of materials.
Since founding Studio Job in 1998, Smeets has developed a unique language that blends ornate sculpture and pop-influenced design, folkloric and kitsch elements.
