Roman Wells Unearthed in Hungary

Archaeologists have discovered Roman-era wells in western Hungary, potentially part of the ancient settlement of Maestriana.

The excavation, conducted by researchers from Göcseji Museum, uncovered three Roman wells from the second century, along with pottery and other imported objects.

Our most important find consists of three Roman wells from the second century, all located within a single excavation unit.

According to archaeologist Lívia Simmer, the internal wooden framework of two wells has survived, and the recovered items provide evidence of Maestriana's trade networks.

The ancient settlement was occupied between the first and fourth centuries A.D.
