The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry plans to allow the hunting of at least 65 wolves this winter.
Minister Sari Essayah aims to permit wolf hunting starting January 1st, with a target population of 273 wolves to ensure a favourable conservation status, significantly lower than the current population of approximately 430.
The Finnish wolf population is at a favourable conservation level through most of the country, up to Fell Lapland.
A report by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) shows a dramatic increase in wolf numbers, especially in the west and southwest.
