The West Virginia University (WVU) defense has been working on tackling and basics during their bye week. Typically, each position group practices tackling within their own group, but this time they mixed it up.
Defensive coordinator Zac Alley brought in scout team wide receivers and running backs for the defensive players to practice tackling. This change was made to address the tackling issues that had arisen in the first six games.
Linebackers aren’t as shifty as a true running back, or a receiver or something like that
said linebacker Ben Cutter, explaining the reasoning behind the new approach. The team practiced making real scenario tackles, including open field tackles.
