Aryna Sabalenka secured the year-end No 1 spot in the WTA Rankings despite missing out on a four-peat at the Wuhan Open.
Sabalenka was defeated by Jessica Pegula in the semi-final, ending her streak of three consecutive titles (2018, 2019, and 2024) at the tournament, which was cancelled from 2020 to 2023 due to COVID-19.
Aryna Sabalenka did enough to win the year-end No 1 WTA Ranking battle with Iga Swiatek.
Coco Gauff also improved her chances of securing the American No 1 ranking. The current rankings are as follows:
