St. Louis Sheriff Jailed Over Accusation of Meddling in Investigation

The sheriff of Missouri's most populous county was jailed on Tuesday, facing mounting calls to resign just 10 months into the job.

Alfred Montgomery, the 28-year-old sheriff of St. Louis, was accused of ordering deputies to handcuff the jail chief and then meddling with an investigation.

Federal Judge John Bodenhausen revoked Montgomery's bond, citing a serious risk that he would "attempt to threaten, injure or intimidate" witnesses or jurors.

Louis Mayor Cara Spencer described the situation as "absurd" and called for Montgomery to resign.
