The Yellowknife Salvation Army had a big weekend, providing Thanksgiving dinner to those in need.
Approximately 250 people attended a traditional turkey meal, served restaurant-style, where attendees were seated and had their orders taken and delivered to their tables.
"We served them restaurant style — having them take a seat and we had somebody come take their order and deliver everything to the table for them. Everybody seemed to appreciate the service and the food,"
said Tony Brushett, executive director of the Yellowknife Salvation Army.
The organization also sold all 600 of its hampers, raising close to $20,000 for groceries to support the food bank over the next couple of months, with an additional $1,000 coming in through donations for food security programs.
"It was a busy weekend, but a very successful weekend,"
said Brushett.
