Questions Surrounding Diplomatic Postings
David Bullard questions why disgraced ANC cadres continue to be appointed to diplomatic positions abroad.
Until recently, the author was unaware of who the South African ambassador to France was, assuming that such a representative would have an impeccable record and no skeletons in their closet.
The author mentions Nathi Mthethwa, who allegedly took his own life by jumping from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel, although the investigation into his death is still ongoing in both France and South Africa.
I would probably have naively assumed that anybody South Africa sent to represent its interests overseas would have had an impeccable record of loyalty to the country and, more importantly, no smallanyana skeletons in the closet.
The circumstances of Mthethwa's death suggest suicide, but the official cause of death has not been determined yet.
