A Venezuelan mother of two, Pérez, 25, wanted to leave the country. She struggled to survive in Chicago after her partner was detained by immigration authorities.
"I don’t want to be here anymore"
Pérez had a permit to work legally and an open asylum request, but feared being taken into custody like other Venezuelans.
She decided it was safer to return to Venezuela with her children.
