Addison Carey, a transition year student at Celbridge Community School in Kildare, has won a Gold Medal at the Eskom Expo International Science Fair in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Carey's project, titled Advancing Post-Quantum Lattice-based Cryptography by Developing Efficient Shortest Vector Problem Approaches, explores how to make future encryption systems more secure against quantum computer attacks.
Quantum computers are significantly more powerful than traditional computers, and many current encryption methods could be rendered obsolete by their rollout.
Her project focuses on strengthening cybersecurity for a post-quantum society.
Author's summary: Kildare student wins award for quantum cybersecurity project.
