Road safety is a shared responsibility
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remind all Ontarians to know the rules of the road and be safety aware when approaching crossovers and school safety crossings.
- Motorists should always be observant of pedestrians.
- School crossing guards are present at school crossings, wearing reflective vests and using stop sign paddles to create safe gaps in traffic.
Under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, school crossing guards are legally permitted to stop traffic by raising their stop sign paddle.
