Sac State Men, Women Usher In New Hoops Era With Wins

Sacramento State Basketball Teams Begin New Era with Wins

The Sacramento State men’s and women’s basketball teams opened the 2025-26 season with impressive victories at the new Hornet Pavilion, marking three notable debuts in the program.

Men’s Team Debut Under Mike Bibby

Former Sacramento Kings star Mike Bibby made his coaching debut leading the Hornets to a 103-79 win over Dominican on November 7. Bibby, a former point guard for the Kings during their early 2000s championship runs, spent half of his 14-year NBA career with Sacramento.

The Hornets’ men’s roster is entirely new this season, with no returning players, making Sacramento State one of only eight programs nationally to start fresh.

Women’s Team Victory Led by Aaron Kallhoff

One day earlier, the Hornets’ women’s team, coached by Aaron Kallhoff, dominated Stanton University 124-39.

Event Highlights

The men’s game drew a sellout crowd of 2,312 fans, celebrating the launch of the state-of-the-art Hornet Pavilion, which serves as the home court for both teams.

"The Hornets’ entire 14-man roster is new to the program, making Sacramento State one of eight programs nationally with zero returning players from a year ago."

Mike Bibby’s transition from NBA star to coach signals a new chapter for Sacramento State basketball, with strong early performances from both men's and women's squads.
