David Auburn’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Proof” returns to Broadway, featuring Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle in the lead roles. The revival also stars Samira Wiley and Jin Ha.
The play will run at the Booth Theatre beginning March 31, 2026, with its official opening on April 16. Tony Award winner Thomas Kail directs the production.
The drama centers on Catherine, portrayed by Ayo Edebiri, the gifted yet unsettled daughter of a distinguished mathematician, Robert, played by Don Cheadle. After her father’s death, the discovery of a mysterious notebook containing a groundbreaking proof forces Catherine to face questions of authorship, inheritance, and identity.
“As debate erupts over its true authorship, Catherine must confront the power of legacy and the cost of proving herself.”
“Proof” premiered off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2000 before transferring to Broadway. The show earned six Tony Award nominations and won three, including Best Play, and also received the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The revival of “Proof” brings new life to Auburn’s celebrated play, blending a gifted cast and modern artistry to revisit questions of genius, loss, and belief.
