The yobs and vandals who brought shame on the North East

Scenes of shocking violence erupted in Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, and Darlington during the summer of 2024. This followed the Southport attack, where three young girls were fatally stabbed. According to the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), more than 1,000 people were arrested over rioting across the UK.

Today, North East courts continue to sentence those involved in the violence last summer. Some of the recent cases at Newcastle Crown Court include:

Dane Peace, 30, who broke into a NatWest bank and took part in a burglary at a vape shop during violent disorder in Sunderland, was jailed for two years and four months in October.
Shay Henson, 19, of Padgate Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to riot and burglary. He was sentenced to 32 months in a young offenders institution last month. He was caught on camera wearing a balaclava, throwing missiles at police, including a plant, and stealing vapes from a forcibly entered vape shop.

The courts continue their work to bring justice to those responsible for the disorder and violence that marred the region last year.
