US-based defense technology company Anduril Industries has launched a new manufacturing facility in Sydney, Australia. The site covers 7,400 sqm and is dedicated to producing the Ghost Shark, an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL-AUV).
The factory opening follows the Royal Australian Navy’s $1.12 billion (A$1.7 billion) contract for a large fleet of Ghost Sharks, scheduled for delivery over the next five years.
The facility combines cutting-edge robotic manufacturing, AI-driven logistics, and a custom-built test tank to verify buoyancy, electrical systems, and safety prior to sea trials.
The site will also develop Dive-XL, a commercial baseline version of the vehicle aimed at exports to allied and partner nations, pending Australian government approval.
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard.
Summary: Anduril's new Sydney factory is a major step in producing advanced autonomous underwater vehicles, boosting local industry and supporting a significant naval contract with innovative technology and jobs.
