Three new major hospital projects will expand patient care

Expansion of Western Australia’s Public Hospital System

Western Australia is set to enhance its public healthcare with three significant hospital projects aimed at expanding patient care options.

Acquisition of St John of God Hospital Mount Lawley

Negotiations are advanced to acquire St John of God Hospital Mount Lawley, transitioning this private hospital into the public health system next year. The hospital currently has 197 beds.

Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion

A major expansion is planned for the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department with a new six-storey building on a recently selected site. Two floors will be dedicated to the Emergency Department, allowing space for transferring other activities without disrupting current operations.

New Peel Health Campus Hospital

Following a review of Peel Health Campus, construction will begin on a new hospital at an adjacent empty site. This approach enables faster building with minimal disruption to existing services. After completion, the current health campus may be repurposed for aged care accommodation.

The new six-storey Peel Health Campus will include:

"The new site will create space and allow for the transfer of other activities across the site, without interfering with the current ED operations."

Summary: Western Australia is advancing public healthcare by acquiring a private hospital, expanding emergency services, and building a new hospital with future aged care plans.
