THUNDER BAY – The 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts brought significant financial support to three local curling clubs. Proceeds from the event’s 50/50 draw and 10% of ticket sales at Fort William Gardens were donated to the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, the Port Arthur Curling Centre, and the Fort William Curling Club.
Each club received a cheque for $52,940, funding aimed at nurturing and expanding grassroots curling in Thunder Bay. Diane Imrie, co-chair of the tournament's local organizing committee, emphasized the importance of the support.
“Each club will get just under $53,000, which will go a long way in helping curling at the grassroots level. We had a great curling event and a legacy of the event is there.”
Rick Lang, co-chair and former two-time world champion, highlighted the value of reinvesting in local clubs during challenging times for funding.
“Curling’s been a part of my life for more years than I want to know and the curling community in Thunder Bay has been really good to me. I think this is a chance to volunteer and pay back the community, and really help the clubs out.”
The funds are expected to strengthen the local curling community and support the sport’s ongoing growth in the region.
