Environment Canada reported on Saturday that weather warnings for strong winds on North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii have now extended to heavy rainfall alerts for broader North Coast regions.
The existing wind warnings issued last night cover North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, with southeasterly winds ranging from 70 to 90 km/h and gusts up to 110 km/h expected over exposed coastal locations.
“An intensifying frontal system will impact the B.C. coast today and overnight into Sunday morning,” states Environment Canada.
Gusts began early Saturday and should subside by Sunday, but there is a risk of power outages and disruptions to services and travel in the affected areas.
DriveBC also warned drivers to exercise extra caution on roads throughout the North Coast in the coming days.
